I recently enjoyed reading the article, DIY Houses In The Internet Age: Some Assembly Required and thought it to be relevant to solving todays housing challenges.  According to the story, “if you can barely swing a hammer, you can still build your own home,” and those at the Maker Faire in New York City proved that point last fall at an event, which celebrated the do-it-yourself aesthetics including digital fabrication and open-source construction plans. As a professional architect, I am not advocating for people to take the initiative to design and build their own houses, but I believe the opportunity exists for willing participants to experience many of the aspects of architecture that we consistently consider. We enjoy the opportunity to work with our clients on their unique projects.
