The American Institute for Architects (AIA) recently presented The Institute Honor Awards, which recognize achievements for a broad range of architectural activity to elevate the general quality of architecture practice, establish a standard of excellence against which all architects can measure performance, and inform the public of the breadth and value of architecture practice.  One of the awards recognized the restoration of St. Louis Public Library’s Central branch.  The St. Louis Public Library sought to modernize the space in its nearly 100 year old Central branch.  The transformation and restoration also focused on increasing public access and enhancing the original Beaux Arts building by Cass Gilbert as a cultural treasure.  Learn more about the restoration of the St. Louis Public Library.

This award recipient was of particular interest to me because at OMS, one of our areas of expertise is restoring and renovating public and academic libraries.  Indiana has many historic library buildings, and our team enjoys the challenge of adapting or modernizing the space while maintaining the architectural style and historic character of these structures.  Read about our Lebanon Public Library project, as one example of our work in this area.
