Mechanical work is nearly finished on the approximately $600,000 project to replace the chiller and boilers at Cloverdale High School. Graves Plumbing Company, Inc. started work in November 2012 to modernize the heating and cooling system. OMS and its consultant – John OberliesConsulting Engineers – designed the renovation which included replacing the old, gas-fired boilers with new condensing boilers and heating water pumps as well as a new air-cooled condensing unit, chiller and chilled water pumps. A temporary chiller provided cooling of the building during the spring and early summer months while piping and equipment were replaced in the existing mechanical room. The renovation also includes energy efficient features such as variable frequency drives for the pumps and a heat exchanger with dry cooler to provide for economical cooling of rooms with excessive heat loads during the winter such as computer labs. The heating and cooling systems will be fully operational for the start of the coming school year.
