At a conference I recently attended, I was asked this question. The answer is that I lately, I have been following the work of Architect Marlon Blackwell, FAIA in an effort to get more familiar with his design philosophy and approach which illustrates the necessity of being responsive to environmental factors, the specificities of site, and sustainable design principles that ultimately provides clients an architecture that can be felt as much as it is understood, as immediate and tactile as it is legible, contributing to the fundamental civic dignity of communities. Marlon was the Friday morning keynote at this year’s AIA Ohio Valley Region Convention. Blackwell’s practice is located in Fayetteville, AK and has the unique distinction of having won two National AIAHonor Awards. You can experience one of Marlon’s projects at the Indianapolis Museum of Art where they have recently completed the Visitor’s Pavilion project.
